Section Q - Dairy Goats
Dairy Goat Society of Western Australia
Web Link http://dgswa.webs.com/index.htm
Australia has some of the finest Dairy Goats in the world. With excellent production and quality breeding, our dairy goats have been exported to many countries, including Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Argentina. Inquiries come in regularly. There are 6 breeds of Dairy Goats in Australia, namely Saanen, Toggenburg, British Alpine, Anglo Nubian, the Australian Melaan and the Australian Brown.
So many aspects of keeping dairy goats are filled with enjoyment. The sight of newly born kids, often twins or triplets is unequalled. While this only happens once a year, the daily interaction with your does during milking is also something special. So is feeding the kids on a bottle and when they respond to you when you call their name.
At the same time, dairy goats are not for everyone. Dairy goats require daily attention and a commitment to their welfare. For example, when a doe is in milk, she must be milked at least once a day. They have to be fed with hay and provided with clean water every day. You will find that while they love routine, like being milked and fed at the same time each day, dairy goats are also very forgiving when things don’t go as planned.
If you are interested in the Dairy Goat Industry, have a look at our website and contact one of our committee members.

Section T - Wiltshire Horn and Wiltipoll Sheep
Web Address: www.wiltshirehorn.asn.au and www.wiltipoll.com
The sheep section of the Kelmscott Annual Show features the Wiltshire Horn and the Wiltipoll breed of sheep.
The Wiltshire Horn are a very old breed of sheep that don't require shearing or crutching. They are naturally bare around the breech, so flys are not a problem and are also resistant to lice, making the breed and excellent choice for organic farmers as chemical treatment is not required. The breed is very fertile having a high percentage of twins and triplets when they lamb in late winter, early spring.
The Wiltipoll breed of sheep is a Polled Wiltshire which was bred by cross breeding with a Polled breed of sheep and a Wiltshire Ram. This cross breeding enables the Wiltipoll to be bred as a pure animal without horns with all the same characteristics of the Wiltshire Horn.
All sheep in this section must be from a registered flock and judging is in accordance with the Australian Stud Breeders Association.
If you are interested in either breed of sheep, speak to one of the many friendly stud breeders during the Kelmscott Annual Show or visit one of our websites.
