FESA DISPLAYS
The Kelmscott Annual Show will be more than rides and show bags with firefighters on hand to explain how people can prepare their homes and protect their families during bush fires at the Fire and Emergency Services Marquee.
Local residents will be able to talk to career and volunteer firefighters on how to develop a bush fire plan. Information will also be available to residents on whether they should stay and defend their properties or go early in the event of a bushfire. Other messages that local firefighters will be promoting are Bushfire Ready - Prepare, Stay and Defend or Go Early, Seniors Home Fire Safety,10 Steps to Home Fire Safety, Smoke alarm options for the hearing impaired, Home Fire Safety including 2 Ways Out and Safe and Secure.
The City of Armadale will be offering information about burning alternatives, prohibited burning periods, firebreaks and other items important to residents of this area.
The Parkerville bush fire in 2007 which destroyed two homes and damaged 13 others highlighted the need for local residents to prepare their properties and have a plan prior to summer.
“Local firefighters are asking those people who do not know how to prepare for bush fires to take a bit of time to come and visit us at the Show.”
Armadale State Emergency Service, Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Roleystone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Brigade and Armadale Career and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service will be showcasing their skills in a number of demonstrations throughout the day.
Highlights will include firefighters extinguishing a gasfire, demonstrating the use of breathing apparatus and using specialised rescue equipment to cut trapped people out of cars.
The stall is located on the main oval and fire safety demonstrations will take place throughout the day.
